GLOBALGAP (formerly EurepGAP) is an initiative of several European supermarkets (including Tesco, Delhaize, Albert Heijn, Laurus and Schuitema). They have established basic guidelines for advancing good agricultural practices (GAP) for fresh fruit and vegetables. These are known as the GLOBALG.A.P. guidelines.
These European supermarkets impose the GLOBALG.A.P protocol as a basic standard with the aim of keeping consumer confidence with regard to food safety. The standard ensures harmonised regulations for the cultivation of products. After implementation, the grower has a system to demonstrate that its products have been produced responsibly.
